Child Find Developmental Screenings for Preschool-Aged Children

Do you have concerns about your preschool-age child’s development?

The Puyallup School District offers free developmental screenings for children ages 3-5 who reside within the district and are not yet of kindergarten age. During Child Find screenings, district staff talk with caregivers and conduct screenings related to a child’s cognitive, communication, physical, social and adaptive skills, as well as conduct hearing and vision screenings. This information is then utilized to determine if a broader evaluation for special education services is needed.

Screenings are held weekly (typically on Mondays) at the Kessler Center and parents regularly share positive feedback regarding their experiences.

One parent recently shared that her daughter was nervous at first but had so much fun interacting with the staff. She said it helped reaffirm some of the concerns she already had, and she was glad that she could share this information with her child’s physician at their next appointment. “I am very grateful there is a resource like this,” she said.

If parents/guardians have concerns about their child’s development, they can contact Puyallup Special Services at 253-841-8700 or by emailing [email protected] to schedule a Child Find screening. If parents have concerns regarding their child under the age of three, they can contact Pierce County Human Services at 253-798-3790 or [email protected].

If parents have concerns regarding their school-age child’s development, they should contact their child’s school.
