Bell Schedule Analysis and Feedback Opportunities
Bell Schedule Analysis and Feedback Opportunities
Posted on 01/27/2023

Large-scale bell schedule changes for the 2023-24 school year are being thoughtfully considered due to transportation challenges that continue to exist districtwide. Since September, a task force has been studying transportation challenges in each region. This work has revealed that the existing bell schedule has created an inefficient transportation system resulting in inconsistent and unreliable services for some students, families, and staff. As a result, large-scale bell schedule changes and the effects on staff, students and families are being evaluated.

An initial survey of families, staff and students is currently open through February 1. Thank you to everyone who has completed the survey. There have been over 3,000 submissions so far! A second community survey will be distributed in late March which will provide an opportunity to review bell schedule proposals and provide feedback again before going to the School Board in April for approval.

Additionally, community webinars are being held to share details, answer questions and gather feedback on the work that has happened to date. If you missed one of the webinars held this week, you can watch a recording here. You also have one more chance to join the last of the initial round of community webinars on Tuesday, January 31 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. (event may end early, dependent on Q&A session).

The informational webinars cover:

- Why this work is necessary

- Logistical challenges with the current bell schedule model

- Bell time considerations and possible scenarios

- Research on later school start times for secondary students

- Decision-making timeline

Thank you for your partnership. We are confident that this important work will positively impact student ride times and overall bus riding experience while increasing transportation efficiencies districtwide.
