We are excited to announce that the Karshner Museum and Center for Culture & Arts has reopened! It is now open Tuesday-Thursday from 1-4 p.m. and the third Saturday of each month from 12-5 p.m. while school is in session. Admission is FREE!
Come see what is new and participate in a variety of culture and arts festivals and other events from now until the end of June.
Additionally, the Karshner Center will be hosting a Nordic and Viking Culture and Arts Festival on Saturday April 23, 2022 from 12-5 p.m. This FREE family event has something for everyone. Take a stroll through a Viking village set up to accurately demonstrate how Vikings lived. You’ll also see a forge making tools and swords, a quern to grind grain, Viking wood carvers, weavers, a silversmith, and more. Nordic artists will also be demonstrating their art, and vendors will be selling everything from Scandinavian sweaters to cards, artwork, metal work, and more. The Northwest Viking Alliance has been doing reenactments and teaching about Viking life for 26 years.
There will be art activities for families and lots of music and dance. The Seattle Lilla Spelsmanslag, a youth fiddle group, will be playing Scandinavian music with the Skandia dancers performing. Musicians from the Nordiska Folkdancers will also be performing. In addition to the performances, arts and crafts, handcrafted weaving, rosemaling and traditional costumes will be on exhibit. Visitors can make Viking rune artifacts, a shield, and a Viking ship to take home.
