Puyallup Students Place in Competitive Writing and Art Contest


Congratulations to students Natalie Bates, Lia Hartley, and Audrianna Rouse!  They each placed in the top 36 winners for the Pierce County Library System’s 25th annual ‘Our Own Expressions’ Teen Writing and Art Contest.

Natalie Bates, Aylen Junior High
Poetry: “Winter Nights”
3rd Place, Grades 7 & 8

 Lia Hartley, Ferrucci Junior High
Short Story: “The Birth of the Philippines”
3rd Place, Grades 7 & 8

 Audrianna Rouse, Emerald Ridge High School
Poetry: “Unsaid and Forgotten”
2nd Place, Grades 9 & 10

 More than 700 students in grades 7 through 12 from schools across Pierce County showcased their talents and competed for cash prizes in the categories of: Poetry, Short Story, Photography, and Drawing. The 36 winning submissions are published in the 2021 Our Own Expressions Booklet.

The award-winning young authors and artists will have their winning work displayed at expressions.pcls.us and in copies of the winners’ booklet, available at Pierce County Libraries through Library Curbside service. They were awarded cash prizes by the Pierce County Library Foundation.
