Grades 6-12 ELA Curriculum Field Test
Grades 6-12 ELA Curriculum Field Test
Posted on 08/23/2018

The Puyallup School District Department of Instructional Leadership is in the process of reviewing English Language Arts (ELA) instructional materials for grades 6-12. We have established an ELA Adoption Committee made up of teachers, site administrators, and district leadership to determine which new materials will best serve our students. Based on responses to a district-wide teacher survey and tools from OSPI, the committee has recommended field testing of SpringBoard ELA by CollegeBoard during the 2018-2019 school year. The process of field testing materials before district-wide implementation provides an opportunity for experienced teachers to customize standards alignment, system integration, and sequencing of activities. It also provides time to develop a local expertise network so that teachers can collaboratively support one another during implementation.

SpringBoard provides frequent opportunities to write creatively and analytically while developing fluency, research skills, and an understanding of how to craft writing based on audience and purpose. With teacher support, students will deepen their understanding of the texts they’ve read and learn how to convey ideas with clarity and voice. More information about SpringBoard ELA can be found if you CLICK HERE.

The Puyallup School District values feedback from students and parents. The following opportunities are available to provide insight for this process:

  • -  Materials will be available for viewing August 27 – Sept 7, 2018 in the reception area of the Educational Service Center at 302 2ND ST. SE, PUYALLUP, WA 98372 between the hours of 7:45 am - 4:30 pm.
  • -  Additionally, an after-hours viewing time will be available on September 10, 2018 from 5:30 - 6:30 pm in the same location.

The Puyallup School District Board of Directors will be provided with an update on the field test and community feedback in December 2018 and January of 2019.
