08-30-12: Board approves bond election
At the August 27 board meeting, the Puyallup School District Board of Directors voted unanimously to approve a bond election in February 2013. The proposition to be set before voters would authorize the district to replace two elementary schools; construct a southwest area elementary school; expand/remodel other elementary schools and Rogers, Emerald Ridge and Puyallup High Schools; construct a new track and field at Edgemont Junior High School; acquire new student computers and other capital improvements, including district-wide technology improvements through $279.6 million in bonds. Chief Operations Officer Rudy Fyles presented the proposed resolution as the culmination of two years of work by the Citizens Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC), Bond Advisory Committee (BAC), and the school board. Fyles noted the high level of public and staff participation on the committees and public input via bond forums and board meetings leading up to Monday night's action.
