Nurses and healthcare workers everywhere deserve special recognition this school year.  I think we can all agree that these professionals are not only caring and dedicated, but extraordinarily courageous.

The efforts of school nurses and health room staff in serving students through our reopening this last year is nothing short of commendable.  Their work has always been an important component of academics, but now more than ever we rely on them for health and safety protocol and guidance.  They have been unwavering in their service and care to students and families.  Working tirelessly with building staff, they are liaisons with our county health department and families.  Every day, I am thankful for their direct efforts in our COVID response protocols and, just recently, their involvement with our vaccination clinics.  They are a vital part of our school community, serving as the link between student health and learning.

This week as we celebrate National School Nurse Day, celebrated during National Nurse Week, Puyallup School District honors the tremendous support, dedication and resilience of our school nurses and health room staff.

Thank you to our 21 RNs, 17 LPNs, and 10 Health Assistants serving in Puyallup schools.  Join with me in celebrating their dedication to supporting healthy students, healthy schools, and healthy communities.

In service and support,

Dr. John Polm
