PSD Connectivity - January 15, 2021:

It has been a tumultuous few weeks in our country with the first breach of the U.S. Capitol since the British in 1812. There has been violence in the capitol in the past, and there have been many other acts against our country. However, this recent event is unprecedented in many ways.

One thing for sure is that our students are more in tune with national political events today than in the past. The access to social media enables real-time information, but of course also offers unfiltered bias that is prevalent in many accessible sources. Our educators are in a position to help our students navigate this incident and others. Keep in mind that our students are the future decision-makers in our society. We want to help them be critical thinkers who search for truth. Nelson Mandela is credited with the quote, “Education is the most powerful weapon, which you can use to change the world.” I trust our educators to help ensure our students are prepared for their future. I also trust we will continue to develop students as citizens of our republic who value a fair, just, and democratic society.
