Three superintendent finalists named

The Puyallup School Board has narrowed its search for a new superintendent to three finalists.

The board has invited the following candidates back to the district for full-day visits, to include meetings with students, employees, and the community:

  •     Dr. Joshua Almy, Deputy Superintendent, Issaquah School District
  •     Dr. John Polm, Superintendent, Port Townsend School District
  •     Dr. Jennifer Bethman, Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education, Bethel School District

One finalist will be featured each day. Dr. Almy will visit on January 28, Dr. Polm will visit on January 29, and Dr. Bethman will visit on January 30.

Candidates will participate individually in evening community forums scheduled from 6-7 p.m. on January 28, 29, and 30 at Ballou Junior High, 9916 136th St. E., Puyallup. Audience feedback forms will be available. The board will then meet in Executive Session with each candidate for their final interview.

Directors announced the three finalists after spending a day conducting preliminary interviews with six candidates. The public was invited to the preliminary interviews held on January 25 and had the opportunity to provide feedback. At the conclusion of all the interviews, the board met in Executive Session to determine the finalists for the position.

A formal announcement of the superintendent selection is expected to occur at a short open public meeting on Friday, January 31 at 9 a.m. at the Education Service Center.
