Fall Athletics Final WrapUp

Last weekend saw the high school fall athletic season come to an end with some outstanding performances.

Unified Bowling

The Puyallup High School Unified Bowling Team won the Gold Medal at the Special Olympics of Washington State Event. The four person team of Anieta Bollinger, James Pierce, Gryfn Cornyn and Isaiah Cook-Eckhart won with a total score 1196 pins over 3 games.

Girls Soccer – State Championships

Puyallup High School Girls Soccer Team won their first WIAA 4A State Championship with a 2-1 victory over Auburn Riverside in the championship game. PHS scored in the first half on a goal by Kalee Huetten and went in to halftime with that 1-0 lead. The Ravens tied the game on a corner kick in the 60th minute. As the end of regulation neared the Vikings were getting many good chances, including a couple off the cross bars. The game went in to stoppage time, and in the 83rd minute Sydney Evans took a cross from Meredith Udovich and put the ball in the in the goal for the winning score. Shortly after that goal, time expired and the Vikings are the 4A State Soccer Champions.

The Vikings had to get past Gonzaga Prep in the semi-final, where the game was scoreless after regulation and overtime. The winner was decided on penalty kicks 4-1.  


Volleyball – State Championships

Emerald Ridge Volleyball won their first match 3-0 over Eastlake before falling to Auburn Riverside in four sets. Bouncing back the next morning to defeat SPSL opponent Curtis 3-0, the Jaguars would lose to North Creek to take 6th in State. A great post-season run as the Jaguars placed 2nd in the SPSL Tournament, 2nd at the WCD Tournament, and 6th in State.

Puyallup HS also competed at the state with almost similar results. PHS won 3-0 against West Valley of Yakima, then lost to eventual state champions Tahoma in four sets. The next morning the Vikings lost to North Creek in five sets, just missing out on a state trophy.


Football – State Tournament

The Puyallup HS Football team lost to Camas in the state quarterfinals and were eliminated from the tournament.
