More
than 300 elementary, junior high, and high school students competed
this spring in the 25th Annual Special Spring Track Meet at Sparks
Stadium.
The
ceremony opened with a presentation of colors by Firgrove Elementary
student Maddy Hunt, Spinning Elementary student Hayden Hagstrom, Aylen
Junior High student Michael Job, and Rogers High student Molly Jackson.
Hundreds of spectators remained standing as Ballou Junior High student Crystal Guzman sang “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Ballou
Junior High teacher Teresa Lockey welcomed guests to the 25th Annual
event, which was dedicated to Gordon Golliet, a former Puyallup School
District Director of Special Education.
“Twenty-five
years ago, he supported our vision to come together at a spring track
meet to celebrate the accomplishments and hard work of all our
students,” Lockey said. “Thank you, Gordon, for believing in our dream!”
Lockey also thanked numerous volunteers, including adults and student peer partners, for helping and encouraging athletes.
Students
received ribbons, applause, and cheers from the crowd as they competed
in the annual softball toss, wheelchair races, and running races.
