The Puyallup School Board has unanimously agreed to extend Superintendent Tim Yeomans’ contract one year through 2017.

The decision to extend the superintendent’s three-year contract another year came after the board completed an annual evaluation of Yeomans using a rigorous process similar to that being implemented districtwide with teachers, principals, and administrators.

“Dr. Yeomans brings his A-game in leading the Puyallup School District,” said Puyallup School Board President Chris Ihrig. “He continues to impress with his ability to build an educational culture of engagement, collaboration, innovation, results and excellence.  As a board we are enthusiastic in our celebration of the district’s accomplishments this past year.  We look forward to tackling both the opportunities and challenges in the future as we partner with Dr. Yeomans to ensure our students experience a successful, life-changing educational experience.”

Ihrig continued, “As one more example of Dr. Yeomans commitment to stewardship and accountability, he has elected to not receive any increase in compensation due to the economic climate, both current and anticipated, of the district.”

Yeomans has served as the district superintendent since July 2012. Puyallup is the ninth largest school district in Washington with more than 20,500 students.

In the written evaluation, board members noted specific areas of positive performance, including Yeomans’ ability to build and maintain positive relationships with the board and with the community.

With goal setting and achievement in mind, the board also noted his progress in supporting the district’s strategic directions.

“Dr. Yeomans continues his direct, focused, and energetically driven repositioning of the district priorities,” the evaluation stated. “Under his leadership the district goals have coalesced into a tangible, detailed, and executable vision and strategy. He has successfully instilled a sense of clarity and accountability, which is noticeable in every aspect of the operational practices.”

The evaluation also highlighted excellent stewardship in the area of business and finance.

“His approach is based on a foundation of values that includes stewardship, accountability, ethics, and integrity,” the evaluation stated.

In the area of personal and professional qualities, the board noted, “His genuine care for all students translates into students believing in themselves and their successful future.”
