Board of Directors identifies superintendent search firm

The selection of a new superintendent for Puyallup School District is, by far, the most impactful decision a board of directors will make. The work is not taken lightly, and directors agree it is the most important work they will do.

With the announced retirement of current superintendent, Dr. Timothy Yeomans in August 2020, the PSD Board of Directors began the new superintendent selection process at their meeting April 22, 2019 with identification of a professional firm with a proven track record.

Northwest Leadership Associates was unanimously approved as the consulting firm to facilitate the search for a new Puyallup School District superintendent.

“Having a proactive, comprehensive, and inclusive process for our superintendent search is critical,” reports School Board President Chris Ihrig. “We are excited to be partnering with Northwest Leadership Associates, a proven professional search firm, to assist us in attracting and hiring the district’s next executive leader.”

The timeline for this process is lengthy and will include time for gathering input from the board, staff, parents, and community to establish criteria for the selection process. A final decision is expected sometime in early 2020.

The district conducted a competitive consultant search process that led to the school board’s selection of Northwest Leadership Associates to develop and conduct the superintendent search process. In addition to conducting community consultations, Northwest Leadership Associates will use the resulting criteria to produce a pool of diverse, highly qualified, experienced, and competent candidates.

The Puyallup School Board strongly urges all stakeholders to constructively engage in the public process facilitated by Northwest Leadership Associates. Directors are committed to the most transparent, inclusive, community-wide selection process possible.
