Rogers High School is committed to supporting students with their post high school goals.

Colleen Pancake, Rogers AVID teacher, has worked closely with local universities creating a great partnership. As a result, more students have access to learn about local universities and obtain assistance with the application process.

Together with the universities, Rogers provides On the Spot Admission events. The experiences give students the opportunity to meet one-on-one with an admission adviser, submit their application, and learn “on the spot” if they have been accepted.

For two consecutive years, Central Washington University (CWU) and Eastern Washington University (EWU), held an On the Spot Admissions event at Rogers. From the one-day event, 50 students were accepted into CWU and 40 students into EWU.

Students computer with CWU applicationApplication Completion Workshop is an event that was created through the partnership with Washington State University (WSU). The workshop allows students the opportunity to sit down with admissions advisers from WSU, ask questions, get assistance with their application, and provide immediate submission. This year 30 students applied to WSU at the workshop.

Pancake is working on similar On the Spot Admissions and Application Completion Workshops with Evergreen State, Pacific Lutheran University, University of Washington Tacoma, as well as two-year colleges and technical schools.

These events help break barriers some students face when planning for post high school. Some students will be the first person in their family to go to college. For them the challenge may be lack of direction or knowledge of the application process. Students may face access challenges due to the demands of school, work, and family obligations.

Rogers will continue to incorporate innovative ways to assist students in achieving their personal post high school plans and eliminate barriers.
