Firgrove students entertained students, parents, and
community members when they presented The Wizard of Oz in February.
There were 60 performers in kindergarten through sixth
grades dressed in colorful costumes. The performance included dancing, set changes,
and lots of action. A hot air balloon floated across the room and performers
danced on the floor as well as the stage.
The play was directed by Kaarin
Vail, kindergarten teacher, Sara McCormick, second grade teacher, and Anna
Connor, PTA Membership Chair and Firgrove parent. The production is
sponsored and funded by the PTA and Firgrove Library who applied for a $1000.00
grant specifically to help with the school play.
The students’ dedication and hard work to prepare was
obvious as they put on a great show for the audience. Firgrove Principal
Richard Lasso said “The play was entirely a homegrown project that demonstrated
the power of collective responsibility amongst schools, families, and
community.”
