Opportunities abound for some seniors at Puyallup High School thanks to the “Pathway to Promise” partnership and a lot of hard work.

Monday, February 29, representatives from the University of Washington Tacoma were at PHS to award certificates to several seniors who had applied to the school and have met admission requirements. They are now automatically accepted as freshmen at the UW Tacoma campus should they choose to register.

To be considered for automatic admission to UW Tacoma, students need to meet the following four criteria:

2.7 or higher grade point average
480 SAT scores (each section) or 21 or higher on ACT
Basic graduation requirements
Well-written admission letter

Through the partnership, students are expected to have a more seamless transition to a four-year university with the overall objective of increasing the number of high school graduates from Puyallup who earn a college degree. This partnership is an important component of the district’s on-going effort to provide better access to post high school opportunities such as higher education at colleges and universities.

In the coming week, celebrations of Puyallup School District students being admitted to UWT will take place at other high schools in our community.
