Posted on 04/06/2016

The Puyallup School District is proud to host an evening forum with candidates seeking election as Washington State’s next superintendent of public schools.  The informational event will be open to public, and will be held at Aylen Junior High School, 101 – 15th Street NW, Puyallup, 98371 on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Facilitated by Executive Director of Washington Student Achievement Council, Dr. Gene Sharratt, the forum will begin at 6:00 p.m.  Audience members are invited to meet the candidates in person between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m.  Light refreshments will be served.
Current Superintendent of Schools Randy Dorn has served in the position since 2009.  He will be retiring this fall.  As a result, Washington will hold an election for superintendent of schools on November 8, 2016.  Across the state, several forums have been scheduled to allow the public to get to know the candidates better.
Candidates for the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) include:
Robin Fleming, administrator for health programs, state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction
Erin Jones, a Tacoma Public Schools administrator
State Representative Chris Reykdal (D-22)
Larry Seaquist, a U.S. Navy veteran and former Democratic state representative
The Puyallup School District does not endorse or support any particular candidate for this election.  The purpose of the forum is to ensure voters are well-informed before participating in the fall election.  For more information about each candidate, visit each of their election websites:
