The second public hearing for the Puyallup School District 2016-17 budget will be held on August 15 at the Education Service Center, 302 2nd St. SE. at 9:00 a.m.

A summary of the Superintendent’s recommended budget will be presented. Following the public hearing, the School Board will be asked to approve the budget for the 2016-17 school year at the regularly scheduled meeting. The new fiscal year begins on September 1.

Chief Financial Officer Corine Pennington presented a draft budget at the August 1 School Board meeting. She cited key issues as uncertainty in state education funding and the increasing enrollment in the Puyallup School District due to growth in the area.

“We are still holding our breath with regards to full funding from the State. A Supreme Court hearing is set for September 7 in the McCleary case. The outcome of that hearing and the Randy Dorn lawsuit could have dramatic impacts to our ongoing operations,” said Pennington.
