The McKinney-Vento Education of Homeless Children and Youth Assistance Act is federal legislation that entitles students experiencing homelessness to be immediately enrolled in school and provides resources to ensure educational stability. The McKinney-Vento Act defines homeless children as "individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence."

Who is eligible?

Children who are:

• -sharing housing with family or friends (due to loss of housing or economic hardships)
• -living in motels or hotels
• -living in homeless or domestic violence shelters, or transitional housing
• -living in cars, parks, or public spaces
• -living in temporary foster care placements
• -migratory children and youth
