Diversity Celebration: World Affairs Summit (April 19-21, 2007)

Puyallup School District students and staff  participated in the first ever World Affairs Summit , which was open to the public April 19 through 21, 2007 in downtown Tacoma.

More than 40 speakers and programs were planned, including presentations and performances by district students.

The conference focused on three themes: peace and social justice, the environment, and education. In addition to speakers and discussions, the summit featured art, entertainment, and food. The free event was staged at venues along the Link in downtown Tacoma.

The Puyallup School District and its Diversity Committee  partnered with several area organizations to sponsor the event. Other founding sponsors include Pacific Lutheran University, University of Puget Sound, University of Washington, The News Tribune, Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma Downtown Merchants Group, and Tacoma Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The district’s Diversity Committee, which has sponsored a spring community celebration the past three years, decided to broaden its scope in 2007 by supporting the World Affairs Summit.
