A public hearing on the potential closure of Hilltop Elementary School will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10 at Edgemont Junior High School.

Edgemont Junior High is located at 2300 110th Ave. E. in Edgewood.

At its April 13 board meeting, the Puyallup School Board unanimously approved a resolution initiating a 90-day time frame to consider closing Hilltop Elementary — the smallest of the district’s 22 elementary schools.

Since then, the board of directors has been accepting public testimony on the potential school closure and reviewing a comprehensive analysis on the subject (Download a copy of this report, pdf, 9.9MB).

A final decision on whether to close Hilltop Elementary is scheduled to be made at the July 13, 2009 Puyallup School Board meeting. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. at the school district’s Education Service Center, 302 Second St. S.E. on the corner of Pioneer Avenue and Meridian Street in downtown Puyallup.
