09-20-11: Giftmakers accepts toy donations through December 24

Puyallup Giftmakers continues to collect toy donations through December 24 for its annual holiday gift giveaway for children in need throughout the school district.

Organizers, who work year-round in preparation for the annual event, are seeking the following items from the community to make the gift-giving a success:

  • New toys for children from infants through age 14, especially baby dolls, Lego sets, cars and trucks, craft kits, block sets and push toys, sports balls and equipment, hand-held electronics, and action figures that transform into other shapes.
  • Books, including those in English and Spanish.
  • Board games, especially Life, Battleship, Sorry, Monopoly, Clue, and Operation.
  • Stockings and stocking stuffers.

Each child is given a new toy and several books, and each family receives a board game.

New infant clothing, diapers, and toiletries are also appreciated.

Items may be dropped off in two donation boxes marked for Puyallup Giftmakers — one at the South Hill Mall and another at Top Food & Drug in Puyallup.

A wooden gingerbread-style house, built by students in the Rogers High School Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE) program, is located near JC Penney inside the South Hill Mall. A sign on the house designates that donated toys are for Puyallup Giftmakers.

A large red wooden box decorated as a holiday present and marked with the Puyallup Giftmakers logo is located inside Top Food & Drug.

Donated toys are given to Puyallup School District families in need by invitation only during a two-day gift giveaway each December.

Students coordinate the toy drives, help hand out toys at the annual event, and serve on the Puyallup Giftmakers Board of Directors.

Community support as volunteers or as donors is essential to the program’s continued success.

If interested in volunteering, contact the Puyallup School District Communications department at (253) 841-8703.

Monetary donations are also appreciated since no school district money can be used for this project. Checks should be made out to the Puyallup Schools Foundation and sent to the Foundation at P.O. Box 55, Puyallup, WA 98371.
