11-10-11: Free services offered at November 19 community event

Free haircuts, flu shots, medical and dental evaluations, vision checks, and other services will be offered to the community, especially to low-income or homeless individuals and families, during a “Day of Services” event on Saturday, November 19.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Puyallup's Memorial Center, 601 North Meridian in downtown Puyallup.

Day of Services is the last of a series of events scheduled during Puyallup Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week November 13-19. All events are sponsored by the Puyallup Homeless Coalition.

The November 19 event will feature information booths and free services offered by doctors, dentists, mental health specialists, veterinarians, acupuncturists, hair stylists, armed forces veterans, massage therapists, and others.

The Department of Social and Health Services mobile van will also be onsite. The public can apply for cash assistance, basic food assistance, medical assistance, drug and alcohol treatment services, and child care services.

A community forum, “Facing the Crisis of Homeless Families in Puyallup, is also scheduled during Puyallup Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.

The forum begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16 at the Puyallup United Methodist Church, 1919 West Pioneer, Puyallup.

The event is being billed as a community conversation and strategy meeting involving social service, business, education, legislative, church, and legal sectors.

Casey Trupin, former chair of the American Bar Association’s Commission on Homelessness, will be available as a resource specialist during the roundtable discussions.
