02-01-12: Nominations invited for Teacher of the Year

The Puyallup School District is accepting nominations for its annual Teacher of the Year awards program.

Parents, students, community members, and school district staff may nominate a classroom teacher for this honor by completing the 2013 Teacher of the Year Program Nomination Sheet.

Completed nomination forms should be sent to Karen Hansen, executive director of communications, at the Education Service Center, 302 Second Street SE, Puyallup, 98372. Forms must be received no later than 4 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2012.

The Teacher of the Year awards program is designed to recognize a professional classroom teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the education of children.

Teachers who are employed full time in a certificated position, spend at least 50 percent of their time in a classroom setting with students, and hold a current teaching certificate are eligible for nomination.

One elementary and one secondary teacher will be selected as Puyallup School District Teachers of the Year and recognized by the Puyallup School Board.

Nomination packets for these teachers will be forwarded to the Puget Sound Educational Service District to be considered for the regional Teacher of the Year selection. A region finalist will be considered for the Washington State Teacher of the Year award.
