Tickets are on sale this week for the performance of the
internationally-acclaimed Dallas Brass, which will present a concert —
including a combined musical selection with area junior high and high
school band students — on Friday, September 20 at Puyallup High School.
The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Puyallup High auditorium.
Tickets cost $10 each and may be purchased from Band Director Eric
Ryan at Puyallup High from Monday, September 16 through Friday,
September 20 between 10 and 11 a.m. or 2:20 and 2:45 p.m
Community members interested in purchasing tickets should report to
the high school office during those times. Any tickets remaining before
the concert will be sold at the door.
The Dallas Brass will present a band clinic during school hours on
September 20 with band students from Puyallup High, as well as Aylen,
Edgemont, and Kalles junior highs. The students will join the Dallas
Brass for a musical selection that evening.
The concert, “American Musical Journey,” incorporates a full
complement of brass and percussion for a musical travelogue through
American history.
The group, founded in 1983 by Michael Levine, features a repertoire
of classical masterpieces, as well as Dixieland, swing, Broadway,
Hollywood, and patriotic music.
In addition to solo engagements throughout the country, the Dallas
Brass appears with symphony orchestras such as Cincinnati Pops, New York
Pops, and Philly Pops. The group has also performed at Carnegie Hall
and the John F. Kennedy Center, as well as toured overseas to Europe and
the Far East.
The Dallas Brass has published two books of original small ensemble music for middle school and high school students and frequently goes into schools to present clinics for band students.
This is the second time the group has come to visit Puyallup High
School. The musicians also met with area band students and performed in
2010.
