04-13-12: School Volunteer Appreciation Week is April 16-20

School Volunteer Appreciation Week is being celebrated throughout the Puyallup School District Monday, April 16 through Friday, April 20.

The Puyallup School Board unanimously approved a proclamation last month naming April 16-20 as School Volunteer Appreciation Week. The local recognition coincides with both the state and national School Volunteer Appreciation Week.

More than 5,400 people, including parents, students, and community members, serve this year as Puyallup School District volunteers.

Each year, the Puyallup School District recognizes an elementary and a secondary school volunteer, as well as a volunteer coordinator, for outstanding contributions to children.

On April 9, the school board recognized the following honorees:

  • Secondary Volunteer of the Year Julie Stout, Emerald Ridge High School.
  • Elementary Volunteer of the Year Madeleine "Maddie" Names, Carson Elementary School.
  • Volunteer Coordinator of the Year: Cheryl Vincent, Hunt Elementary.

The volunteers will be featured in the April issue of the district's Connections newsletter.
