04-14-12: Students perform in 79th annual Daffodil Parade

Junior high and high school band, cheer, drill, dance, and JROTC groups performed April 14 in the 79th annual Daffodil Festival Grand Floral Street Parade in downtown Puyallup.

Participating schools included Emerald Ridge, Puyallup, and Rogers high schools, as well as Aylen, Ballou, Edgemont, Ferrucci, Glacier View, Kalles, and Stahl junior highs.

The school groups were among more than 120 parade entries, including 40 floats decorated with thousands of fresh-cut daffodils and designed around the "Don't Stop Believing" festival theme.

The 2012 Daffodil Festival princesses Katey Della-Giustina of Emerald Ridge High, Megan Gimmestad of Puyallup High, and Jordan Zuniga of Rogers High waved to the crowd from the Royal Float.

Beginning in 2005 the Daffodil Festival implemented a program called “Educator of the Year.”

This year's Puyallup School District winners are Emerald Ridge High AP Literature teacher Brandi Groce, Puyallup High English/Leadership teacher Jamie Mooring, and Rogers High Choral Director Justin Wisness.
