Applications for highly capable testing will be taken for new to the district students throughout the summer for testing in August prior to the 2022-23 school year. Please provide copies of current state, Math and Reading assessments, CogAT, and highly capable program placement letters from former schools to [email protected] for your applicant.
Important 2022-23 Information
Qualified/identified students who have been selected for Highly Capable services in 2022-23 are being placed at their regional host school or at one of the host schools with available space. Please find school supply lists at your host school website. The QUEST and PAGE bus schedules will be posted on the transportation website in mid to late August. Plan to attend your host school's Back to School event. Schools will send information to students.
Important 2021-22 Information
Highly Capable services for qualified/identified students who wish to continue distance learning will look different from what was experienced in 2020-21 for this reason: the state no longer requires school districts to offer distance learning, hence there is no funding for additional staffing to replicate and sustain how the services were offered last year when distance learning was a requirement due to the pandemic.
For families with identified highly capable students that are going to continue to have their children be served in the distance learning model, the option is to be served through our Puyallup Digital Learning (PDL) in one of these tracks:
Track 1 - Closely resembles last year's CL2.0 model, with regular district curriculum at current grade level, not using highly capable curriculum.
Track 2 - Acceleration through Edgenuity curriculum supported by PDL teacher (for specific questions on Edgenuity curriculum, please contact PDL at [email protected] .
Track 4 - Acceleration through Edgenuity curriculum in the areas of Math and English Language Arts (ELA) supported by PDL teacher with parent choosing to teach Science.
Please note that PDL is able to arrange receiving Music education for students. Please contact PDL.
If you have recently registered your K - 8th grade student in the Puyallup School District for the 2020-21 school year, you may apply for possible placement in the highly capable program. Please complete the highly capable online application. The highly capable testing schedule and deadlines are now posted though are subject to change due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
During these unprecedented times, the National Association for Gifted Children has offered ways for supporting your gifted child at all age levels. Please click on: Supporting Your Gifted Child During COVID-19
The Puyallup School District is committed to providing access to highly capable students from all backgrounds to accelerated learning and enhanced instruction.
