Strategic Planning Continues

Superintendent Polm presented a near to final draft of the district’s new Strategic Plan at the February 21 School Board meeting.

Prior to building the new strategic plan, the Strategic Plan Steering Committee solicited feedback from a variety of stakeholders to understand the district’s strengths and priority areas. This included staff, community members, and students to ensure that the plan would serve all members of the district and community.

In pursuit of identifying the most pressing areas of focus, several areas of strength emerged. The Puyallup School District is proud of the work that has been done to contribute to these strengths and is dedicated to cultivating the conditions required to ensure they continue to be strengths for the district.

  • District Leadership Cohesion: District leadership is closely aligned on the strengths and challenges in the district and has a strong working culture.

  • Fiscal Responsibility: There is a strong history and reputation of fiscal responsibility in the district.

  • Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Supports: Investments in social-emotional learning, most notably additional SEL staff support, have been well-received in the district. An emerging focus on student voice and belonging is also a strength.

  • Technology: Early investments in technology, specifically district wide 1:1 devices for students, allow for a more productive learning environment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • New Teacher Mentorship: District leaders and school staff shared that new teachers receive additional support that is beneficial to their professional development in the first two years of teaching.
