PHS Unified Soccer Team to Compete in State Tournament

Congratulations to the Puyallup High School Unified Soccer team! The Division 2 team earned bronze at the Regional Tournament on May 14 and moves on to compete in the State Tournament on May 28. 

The State Tournament takes place in Puyallup with quarter final and semifinal rounds at the Washington Premier fields off River Road, and the Championship Game at Sparks Stadium with the Boys WIAA State Championships. The championship game will be at 2 p.m. on May 28.  

Unified Soccer Division 2 TeamThe PHS Division 3 Team won gold in regional competition. Division 3 does not advance to the state tournament. 

This is the first year PHS has competed in Unified Soccer. They have two teams and 20 students competing. There are three divisions for Unified Soccer and PHS fields a team for Division 2 competitive; and Division 3 — developmental working on skills.   

Sports are offered for students in grades 9-12 and students in the Gateway or Advance programs.  

This year, Rogers and Puyallup both had teams competing. The Unified teams also compete in Softball, Bowling, and Basketball. 

Unified Sports is a division of Special Olympics of Washington. Special Olympics Unified Sports® is an inclusive sports program that combines Special Olympics athletes (individuals with intellectual disabilities) and unified partners (individuals without intellectual disabilities) on teams for training and competition. 

The team started practicing at the end of March at Sparks Stadium and had three weeks of League play where they competed against other teams in the region.  They played against White River, Enumclaw, Foss, Peninsula, Mt. Tahoma, Fife and Rogers High School.
