The accomplishments of student athletes and coaches for the 2021-22 Winter Athletic Season were highlighted at the March 21 School Board meeting. This was the first time in two years student athletes and coaches were able to be invited to attend in-person and be recognized in front of the school board and audience.
The teams, individuals, and coaches of those who won state championships this past season were presented by Jim Meyerhoff, Director of Instructional Leadership, Athletics, Health, & Fitness.
- • ERHS State Championship Cheer Squad
- • PHS State Championship Cheer Squad
- • Aidan Davis – PHS Swimming State Champion and coach Casi Messineo
- • Rylye Anderson – PHS Gymnastics State Champion and coach Dorinda Carpenter
- • Skye Johnson – RHS Gymnastics State Champion and coaches Bobbi Jones, Karrie Marton, Bri Howe
Meyerhoff noted that student participation in athletics and extracurricular activities are an important component of the development of the whole child/student. The WIAA recognizes team cumulative grade point averages with Distinguished or Outstanding designations. There were 21 out of 24 teams from the winter season who earned those academic honors. Four of the teams have a cumulative GPA over 3.5 and earned the Outstanding designation.
The spring sports season is now in full swing and includes baseball, fastpitch, boys soccer, girls tennis, girls water polo, and boys and girls track, and unified soccer. Schedules can be found at spsl.org.
