Inclusivity Message from Superintendent and School Board

In the Puyallup School District, we focus intentionally on diversity and inclusion because it’s the right thing to do for humanity.

The recent news of violence towards Asian Americans and the senseless Atlanta-area spa shootings, remind us that hate has no place in the Puyallup School District.  We are heartbroken by this uptick in racism and violence across our country.

As an educational institution, it’s our role to teach and model right from wrong.  When violence and racism occur, it has a devasting impact on those directly affected and our greater community.  Violence towards any groups of people based on gender, religion, race, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender expression and identityor other attributes, is intolerable.  As Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”  Together, we can do just that.

In the Puyallup School District, we pride ourselves on our diverse community and thinking.  Our goal is to make every student, family and staff member feel valued, respected and cared for.  It is through our diverse backgrounds that we foster unity in our unique experiences and perspectives.

We are in a place to make a real, lasting difference in this world.  Understanding one another helps us to develop empathy and build lasting, meaningful relationships with those who are different than ourselves.

To our studentsespecially those from marginalized communitieswe are here for you and we stand with you.  Counselors and staff in our schools are prepared to offer whatever support necessary.

Our tradition of excellence in the Puyallup School District thrives because of our differences.  We will continue to embrace and celebrate that, while breaking down the barriers of racism and violence.
