Special Message from the Puyallup School Board
Posted on 06/05/2020
Dear Puyallup School District Community,

On behalf of the Puyallup School District, we are sharing this message in response to the recent events across our nation. We are deeply saddened and continue to stand in unity to end systemic racism.

Racism and inequality affect everyone who are marginalized, particularly our communities of color, and perpetuates division. We acknowledge and are aware that racial injustice, and the terrible disparities it creates in our education system, has a counterproductive effect on our progress to celebrate differences and thrive as a healthy community.

The District has made equity and inclusion a top priority these past several years. Administrative Designee Dr. Vincent Pecchia and incoming Superintendent Dr. John Polm, along with the entire PSD staff, will continue to work with urgency and intentionality to drive critical changes in our system, deepening our work in culturally responsive practices. Our schools are environments of respect and learning for every child, teaching students to advocate for their right to be treated with kindness and compassion. Our systems need to reflect that we do not and will not tolerate injustice and racism in our schools.

Communities are stronger when voices are heard and differences are celebrated. In partnership with our diverse communities, we will continue to listen and incorporate what we learn together to build a better learning community. The power and importance of this work is a priority for the Puyallup School District.

In partnership,

The Puyallup School Board
