Diversity Celebration: Honoring Cultures Diversity Celebration (April 2011)

The Puyallup School District's annual Honoring Cultures Diversity Celebration will highlight cultural awareness through artwork, essays, poems, read-alouds, and student presentations and performances. Students in kindergarten through grade 12 are expected to participate in the event, which will be held at this year's Spring Fair, in the South Foyer and Pioneer Rooms at the Showplex Exhibition and Conference Center of the Puyallup Fair & Events Center in downtown Puyallup. The celebration is sponsored by the district's Office of Diversity Affairs.

Throughout the Fair, taking place from Thursday, April 14 through Sunday, April 17, student artwork, essays, poems, and other student work based on culturally relevant curriculum and projects will be on display throughout the days of the Spring Fair. This combined display is a showcase resulting from the district’s continuing efforts to honor the cultures of all our students and staff through curriculum, read-alouds, art projects, student presentations and performances.

The Spring Fair provides the perfect setting for families to come and share in this event. Although the displays will be open to the public on all the days of the fair, the big day for Puyallup families who want to see the exhibition will be 10 am to 8 pm on Saturday, April 16. Students will discuss their work and reflect on their learning regarding diversity and honoring cultures with visitors to the fair. There will also be special performances from district music programs, dance groups, and individual performances on the Coca-Cola stage outside the Honoring Cultures Diversity Celebration display.
