The Rogers High School girls soccer team recently earned the Washington Interscholastic Athletics and Activities (WIAA) Class 4A Fall Academic State Championship.

The Rogers High School girls soccer team, led by Coach JR Farias, brought in a 3.802 GPA team average, the highest in the state for the class 4A sport.

Rick Wells, director of athletics, health, and fitness presented the achievement of the Rogers High School girls soccer team to the Puyallup School District Board of Directors at the December 12 School Board meeting at Kalles Junior High School.

The WIAA recognizes teams for earning GPAs and awards Distinguished Academic Recognition (3.0 - 3.49) or Outstanding Academic Recognition (3.5 - 4.00).

This past fall 27 Puyallup School District high school teams received academic distinctions from the WIAA. Very few districts can boast of this accomplishment.

Wells also presented a fall athletics season wrap-up at the board meeting which included both team and individual highlights.

Emerald Ridge High School boys water polo team achieved third place in South Puget Sound League (SPSL) 4A with three wins and five losses.

Puyallup High School girls soccer team won SPSL 4A league champions. The overall record for the season included 14 wins, three losses, and two ties.

The Puyallup High School girls swim and dive team took second place in the SPSL with six wins and two losses. Kacey Kiuchi took first place for the West Central District 200m freestyle as well as the 100m backstroke.

Puyallup High School also brought home a co-champion title for SPSL 4A girls volleyball with an overall record of 20 wins and nine losses. The girls volleyball team took second place at the SPSL tournament.

Puyallup High Schools boys water polo team brought home a second place title for SPSL 4A with nine wins and two losses. The boys water polo team also took second place at the SPSL 4A tournament.

Rogers High School girls swimming team achieved third place in SPLSL 4A with four wins and two losses.

The SPSL South Division also awarded two Puyallup High School coaches with the honor of Coach of the Year. The fall coaching recognitions went to Puyallup High School girls soccer coach, Matt White, as well as volleyball coach, Tony Batinnovich.

Rick Wells said in celebration, "The fall Puyallup School District athletic accomplishments are a solid testimonial of what commitment, determination, and dedication can achieve. We can all take pride in such accomplishments."
