Brian Fox, executive director of communications, welcomed the retired educators and spoke briefly about the growth in the Puyallup School District, the bond election, and record high graduation rates.

The Puyallup High School Norselanders ensemble, under the direction of choir teacher George Guenther, performed three songs a cappella during the luncheon.

PHS NorselandersAccording to Jean Washburn, a Puyallup High graduate and school district retiree, the meetings support retiree benefits in Olympia, and usually include a guest speaker with various topics. Jean added the retirees are “people who have kept together for a number of years with many friendships. Some were my teachers it is important to have that connection with the past. Puyallup has a rich history and this group promotes that.”

Ray Tobias, former superintendent, attended the luncheon. He noted he has three children who each become an elementary principal.

Jean added that any school employee who retires can join the association. There is also a Pierce County chapter that meets regularly.
